BOSTON, MA – On Tuesday, August 30, 2022, the Office of the Santa Fe County Assessor (OSFCA) was announced as the recipient of the 2022 International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) Distinguished Assessment Jurisdiction of the Year. OSFCA representatives received this award while attending and presenting during the 2022 IAAO Annual Conference in Boston, MA. This award was received due to the many technological advancements that have been implemented to better serve the greater Santa Fe community. These advancements include but are not limited to: a state-of-the-art website, online chat, chat-bot (an automated chat service for after-hours customer service), property valuation protest text messaging updates, community engagement and outreach including the implementation of aerial and oblique imagery software, as well as creation of a Customer Service and Quality Control Department. The OSFCA was the only jurisdiction out of over 3,000 jurisdictions internationally, to receive this award.

Santa Fe County Assessor Gus Martinez said of the award, “I am thankful for my amazing staff, who are very passionate and dedicated to ensuring excellent customer service to our community and without them this award wouldn’t have been possible”.

The IAAO Distinguished Assessment Jurisdiction Award makes its way back to Santa Fe County to join three previously acquired awards. First, the 2016 Public Information Program Award (received from IAAO for being recognized as an assessment jurisdiction that has developed & implemented effective ways to disseminate information about the assessment process).  Second, the 2017 Public Sector Champion Jurisdiction of the Year Award (received from Thomas & Reuters for our continued efforts in public information through online live chat, outreach meetings, and a high level of customer service). Third, the 2019 Certificate of Excellence in Assessment Administration (CEAA) (received from IAAO as a result of operating the office following best practice standards and meeting all statutory requirements; Out of 3,007 jurisdictions nationally, the office was the 47th jurisdiction in the United States & the 1st office in the state of New Mexico to receive this prestigious award).  The OSFCA has continuously been recognized for how well they connect with the community to ensure all constituents have easy access to information, and for operating from an international best practice approach in the property tax assessment world.
