Electricity disconnections continue August 16th, visit Rent Help NM for possible assistance

PNM urges 44,000 past-due customers to immediately contact utility before electricity disconnections resume on Monday, August 16th. 

(AUDIO) KSWV Radio visited with Henry Valdez, State of New Mexico Department of Finance and Adminstration, to discuss the Emergency Rental Assitance Program that provides utliity assitance for qualified individuals.

Emergency Rental Assistance Program provides utility assistance for qualified individuals

According to PNM,  “Despite non-payment, nearly 44,000 customers have been provided power for the last year and a half since the start of the pandemic. These customers are still responsible for paying for the electricity they used. PNM wants to help avoid shutoff situations, but customers must immediately take action by contacting PNM online at PNM.com/help or by calling 888-DIAL-PNM (888-342- 5766) Monday – Friday from 7:30AM – 6PM.”

Assistance funds may include;

  • The PNM COVID Customer Relief Fund provides a one-time credit between $50-$200 for qualifying residential
  • The PNM Good Neighbor Fund is an emergency assistance fund for PNM customers facing an unexpected financial hardship due to an emergency situation. It may be able to help cover part or all of a past-due PNM bill with as much as a $170 credit per income eligible residential customer. LIHEAP approval required.
  • The New Mexico Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) may be able to help low- income families with as much as $550 to pay your electric bill. 
  • The Emergency Rental Assistance Program is available to New Mexico renters who are experiencing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The State of New Mexico is helping renters pay their rent, electric bills, gas bills, water and sewer, trash removal, and other expenses related to housing costs such as hotel/motel costs.
