Getting Down to Business: Strengthening Santa Fe’s Business Community

If you own a business in Santa Fe, operate a short-term rental, or just want to learn more about how the city handles planning, zoning, and enforcement, you won’t want to miss the upcoming Getting Down to Business event. Hosted by the City of Santa Fe’s Planning and Land Use Department, this half-day gathering is designed to provide vital information and resources to business owners and community members.

We had the opportunity to sit down with Maggie Moore, Assistant Land Use Director for the City of Santa Fe, to discuss the event, its importance, and what attendees can expect.

What is “Getting Down to Business”?

The Getting Down to Business event is a city-led initiative that brings business owners, short-term rental operators, and community members together to discuss key topics like business licensing, short-term rental compliance, and code enforcement.

When: Wednesday, March 19, 2025
Where: Santa Fe Community Convention Center
Time: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

The event will feature keynote speaker Trevor Vaughn from the City of Aurora, Colorado. His insights will help Santa Fe business owners understand compliance and enforcement strategies that balance economic growth with community well-being.

How Does Land Use Affect You?

Maggie Moore provided an overview of the Planning and Land Use Department, explaining how it impacts nearly every aspect of life in Santa Fe. From historic preservation to long-term city planning, business licensing to code enforcement, this department plays a key role in shaping the city’s future.

With Santa Fe embarking on an update to its 1999 General Plan, the department is actively engaging the community to gather input on what the city should look like in the next 25 years. This event is just one of the many ways they’re working to ensure local businesses and residents have a voice in that process.
