Animal shelter waiving fee for all dogs in honor of Betty White

Fees waived on Monday January 17, 2022

The Santa Fe Animal Shelter has announced that on Monday, January 17, 2022, all dogs over the age of 5-months will be fee-waived in honor of what would have been Betty White’s 100th birthday.

The shelter is honoring the legacy of White, who was a long-time animal advocate and spoke about shelter animals during her lifetime. At the same time, the shelter is also participating in the Betty White Challenge, a social media challenge that encourages fans to donate to their local animal shelter.

“Betty White has inspired for many reasons, and her commitment to helping animals was certainly one of them,” said Murad Kirdar, public relations of the shelter. “I think she would be thrilled that, even after her passing, she’s still helping animals in need.”

Santa Fe Animal Shelter will hold its Betty White fee-waived adoption event at 100 Caja del Rio Road from 11 am to 5:30 pm on Monday, January 17, 2022. On Monday, the shelter will also have some surprises in honor of White on their social media channels.

“This is an excellent opportunity for people to support animals in need in their community, either by donating or adopting, in honor of Betty White and the decades of work she did for homeless and unwanted animals,” said Kirdar.

Fee-waived adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, a microchip, and up-to-date vaccines and does not include shelter heroes. Per the shelter’s usual process, all potential adopters complete an in-person adoption counseling. A city or county license fee will apply.

White, who died December 31 at age 99, just three weeks shy of her 100th birthday, adored animals and used her star power to help as many as she could. To donate to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter in honor of Betty White, visit SFHumaneSociety.org.
